Travel Day

Today was our longest travel day since we departed the States.  Because rain clouds rolled in, we were unable to take the very short flight over the mountains and back to our car.  Instead, we traveled by land which turned what would have been a 10 minute flight into a 2 hour slow van ride through rough mountainside roads.  We then had a 5 hour drive ahead of us to Cintsa, South Africa which is home to the legendary Buccaneers Backpackers.

During the course of the trip, Kathy endlessly insulted our sweet ride which she refers to as a tin can on wheels. The car has been given a name. His name is Bently.  Kathy's love of the 2 lane highway has only increased as our journey continues.  This has, of course, only encouraged Bob to fan the flames. Today we learned that Bob has won 3 Piston cups. This boasting was followed by Roman doing his best Mater impersonation and responding right on que with "he did what in his cup?".  Boys will be boys.

We arrived just after 4pm which was important because we had a late afternoon Skype session scheduled with Mabret's 4th grade class at the Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School.  When we connected with Mr. Kromko, Mabret and Roman were met with a raucous hello from the entire class.  There was genuine love and emotion from both sides of the Atlantic.  The kids exchanged questions and answers as well as some laughs together.  Another reminder of how lucky we are to live in a community with such supportive and caring friends.  Mr. Kromko informed us that many people in the school community are following us on the blog.  We are grateful for the support back home and send a big thank you.  Go Purple.

We arrived in time to explore a bit and have dinner in the Buccaneer bar and dining area.  This place is filled with very interesting travelers (mostly 20ish but not entirely) from all over the world.  We look forward to swapping travel stories during the next 2 days and nights that we are here. The Buccaneer
sits quite literally on the beach looking over the Indian Ocean.

Some pics from our very brief time here thus far.

Exploring the sand dunes.

Roman cracking his brother up.  Love seeing Mabret laugh like that.

Shooting pool after dinner.

Tune in tomorrow as we expect a busy day.  Good luck tonight, Paupack Power. Make us proud!
